Cypresses (1889)
"Cypresses" is a famous painting by Vincent van Gogh, painted in 1889 during his stay in the mental hospital in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The work depicts the distinctive, twisting forms of the cypress trees, common in the Provençal landscape, under a dynamic, swirling sky. Interesting fact: Van Gogh wrote in a letter to his brother Theo that he found it impossible to describe the beauty of the cypresses in words and that they inspired him to paint.
