The Slave and the Dove (1883)
Joaquín Sorolla, the Spanish master of light, enchants us with his work "The Slave and the Dove" from 1883. In this painting, Sorolla shows his early fascination with the play of light and shadow, which would later become his trademark. The composition is a fascinating interplay of contrasts: the gentle, innocent dove contrasts with the bound, melancholic figure of the slave. Sorolla captures the emotions of the figures with such intensity that one almost feels as if the dove could fly away at any moment and take the slave away to a world of freedom.
Fun fact: Did you know that Sorolla almost drowned as a child? This traumatic experience may have explained his lifelong fascination with the sea and the play of light on water surfaces. Sorolla was also an avid photographer, which greatly influenced his ability to capture fleeting moments in his paintings.

We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.
Environmentally friendly
We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
