Greater Flamingo (1777-1786)
Robert Jacob Gordon, a Dutch explorer and artist, documented the flora and fauna of South Africa with extraordinary detail between 1777 and 1786. His depiction of the greater flamingo is exemplary of his efforts to capture the natural beauty and diversity of this region. Gordon, who worked not only as an artist but also as a researcher, combined scientific accuracy with aesthetic sensibility. His watercolors and drawings are therefore not only artistically valuable but also of great importance for natural history. They offer a unique insight into the biodiversity of the 18th century in South Africa and are still an important source for scientists and historians today.
Interesting fact: In addition to his native Dutch, Robert Jacob Gordon was fluent in French, German, English, and several indigenous languages of South Africa. This language knowledge not only made it easier for him to communicate with the local populations during his expeditions, but also enabled him to build an extensive network of contacts that was invaluable for his research.

Print medium
We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.
Environmentally friendly
We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
