Cats Suggested by the Fifty three Stations of the Tōkaidō nr2 (1847)
Utagawa Kuniyoshi's 1847 artwork "Cats Suggested by the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" is a fascinating depiction in which Kuniyoshi reinterprets the famous stations of the Tōkaidō Road through the depiction of cats. Each cat in the series uniquely embodies one of the stations along the historic route that connected Edo (modern-day Tokyo) to Kyoto. Kuniyoshi's detailed and expressive drawings not only demonstrate his mastery of the ukiyo-e style, but also his deep affinity and powers of observation for cats, who in this series take on human traits and behavior in a humorous way.
Interesting fact: Utagawa Kuniyoshi was known for his extraordinary creativity and often humorous approach to traditional subjects. He had a particular fondness for cats, which frequently appear in his works. In fact, Kuniyoshi was so fascinated by these animals that he was nicknamed the "cat lover." His depictions of cats imitating human activities were very popular not only in Japan but internationally as well, contributing to his reputation as one of the most innovative artists of the Ukiyo-e movement.

We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
