Dsphranter Rufus (Red Kangaroo) (1863)
John Gould, an outstanding British ornithologist and artist of the 19th century, is known for his magnificent illustrations of birds and other animals. His 1863 work "Dsphranter Rufus" depicts the Red Kangaroo in its natural splendor. Gould's illustrations are not only artistically impressive but also scientifically accurate, making them valuable documents for zoology. His ability to capture the essence of animals has earned him the nickname "Father of Bird Illustration."
Interesting fact: John Gould was not only a gifted artist, but also a shrewd businessman. He began his career as a taxidermist at the London Zoological Gardens, where he honed his skills in handling animals. A lesser-known detail is that his wife Elizabeth Gould, a talented artist, produced many of the lithographs in his early works. Their collaboration was so successful that they are often referred to as the "dream couple of nature illustration." Unfortunately, Elizabeth died young, and Gould continued working with other artists, but always remained the creative mind behind the projects.

We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.
Environmentally friendly
We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
