Blue turnip (1500)
The "Blue Turnip" is a fascinating work of art created around the year 1500 by an unknown artist. This work is characterized by its unusual depiction of a turnip in vibrant shades of blue, which was considered very unconventional at the time.
Interesting fact: The depiction of the anthropomorphized root vegetable comes from a 15th-century herbal book that originates from northern Italy, most likely the Veneto region. The use of blue in medieval and early modern art was often a sign of luxury and prestige, as blue dye, especially that extracted from the woad plant or the more precious lapis lazuli, was very expensive. The fact that the artist depicted a turnip in this color could therefore indicate a playful approach to the value system of his time, or place the turnip in a higher, perhaps even royal, context.

We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.
Environmentally friendly
We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
