Hare (1502)
The "Hare" is a watercolor painting created in 1502 by Albrecht Dürer, one of the most important artists of the Renaissance in Northern Europe. This work of art is characterized by its exceptional level of detail and realistic depiction of the animal. Dürer masterfully understood how to depict the texture of the fur and the lively eyes of the hare in such a way that the viewer almost feels as if he is seeing a living animal in front of him. The composition is simple, but the technique and the ability to observe and depict nature so precisely were revolutionary in Dürer's time.
Interesting fact: The "Hare" is famous not only for its detailed execution, but also because it is one of the first known examples of lifelike animal depiction in European art history. In addition, this work shows Dürer's deep powers of observation and his interest in natural science, which was not common at the time. It is believed that Dürer studied the hare from several perspectives to achieve the accuracy of his depiction.
