Evening in Ushigome (1939)
Koitsu Tsuchiya, a master of the Shin Hanga movement, captures the calm and melancholic mood of a Japanese evening in his work "Evening In Ushigome". The composition shows a harmonious balance between light and shadow, which is typical of Tsuchiya's work. The soft colors and the detailed depiction of architecture and nature create an atmosphere of serenity and invite the viewer to immerse themselves in the scenery. Tsuchiya, who originally began as a student of Kiyochika Kobayashi, developed his own style, characterized by the masterful use of light and shadow.
Interesting fact: Koitsu Tsuchiya began his career not as an artist, but as an apprentice in a printing shop. It was not until he was 38 that he fully devoted himself to the art of woodblock printing. Another fascinating detail from his life is that he stayed in Japan during World War II and continued to create artworks that captured the beauty and tranquility of Japanese landscapes even though the country was in turmoil. His works are now sought-after collectors' items and testament to his ability to capture the essence of Japanese culture and nature despite adverse circumstances.

We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.
Environmentally friendly
We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.
UV & moisture resistant
Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
